The Mugo is a new musical instrument, designed to be accessible, affordable, easy to use with limited movement, and fun to play. The instrument enables children and young people with physical disabilities to create and perform music.
The Mugo is currently in development and is a collaboration between Sounds of Intent, The Amber Trust, Gawain Hewitt, University of Roehampton, and TiME (Technology in Music Education UK) – and we are delighted that it has been shortlisted in the 2025 MIDI Innovation Awards!
The awards, established in 2021, celebrate groundbreaking advancements in MIDI technology. There are six categories in the awards, and the Mugo has been shortlisted in the category: Hardware Prototypes/Non-Commercial Products.
We need you to vote for the Mugo to help this innovative new instrument reach the finals of the awards.
How to vote:
- Visit the MIDI Innovation Awards website to read more information about the Mugo and to register your vote
- Click the button at the bottom of the page that says ‘Vote in the MIDI Innovation Awards’
- Select the category: Hardware Prototypes/Non-Commercial Products
- Select The Mugo and two other products to vote for (you have to vote for three)
Voting closes on Monday 4th August.
After the public vote, a panel of judges will rank the finalists to determine the winner, second place and third place entrants in each category.
