To help celebrate 30 years of Amber, we are shining a light on our dedicated music practitioners and teachers that make such an impact on the children and young people we support. Ashleigh Lowes has been nominated by Amos’s family for our Music Practitioner and Teacher Spotlight!
‘It has been amazing for us as a family to see Amos and Ashleigh through the music lessons. Ashleigh has been helping Amos and us to understand how he actually has a good ear for music, especially when playing the keyboard which he loves’ says Amos’s mum, Marsida.
‘I have to say that for me as a mum it is wonderful to see my son having so much fun with an instrument, but Ashleigh has been pushing Amos more and more to learn and play some simple tunes. It gives me hope that one day, with the right support, anything can be possible for him.’
Reflecting on their work together, Ashleigh says, ‘Working with Amos and his family has been such a joy and privilege. His love for music and the keyboard shines every week, and thanks to The Amber Trust’s support, he now has his own instrument at home to explore and enjoy. It’s inspiring to see his confidence grow and to watch him discover just how much he can achieve through music.’
Ashleigh is a member of our new Music Teacher Directory, a resource for individuals seeking music teachers experienced in teaching blind and partially sighted children. Ashleigh is based in the North East of England and teaches piano/keyboard, singing, ukulele and composition/song writing.
3-year-old Amos is currently on our Little Amber scheme, an innovative music service that aims to enable blind or partially sighted babies and young children to engage with music. Families on our Little Amber scheme receive a set of music activity cards, a set of percussion instruments, and 8 hours of home visits a year from a specially trained Amber music practitioner like Ashleigh.
