The Amber Trust is pleased to introduce a new Music Teacher Directory, designed for individuals and families seeking music teachers experienced in working with vision impaired musicians.
Amber was commissioned by the Music Team at RNIB to create this directory, with funding from Arts Council England.
Who is the directory for?
The directory is a response to frequent enquiries from parents, carers, and professionals across the UK who are seeking music teachers with experience in working with blind and partially sighted children, including those with additional disabilities.
This resource will connect families and individuals with teachers who are either based locally or able to offer remote lessons.
The directory features music teachers proficient in a wide range of instruments. This includes those with expertise in teaching braille music and providing braille transcription services.
Experienced music teachers
The directory is not a public or exhaustive list. It only includes music teachers who are currently working with children supported by The Amber Trust and who have given their consent to share their information.
We designed this resource as a straightforward and accessible way to help families find suitable music teachers who understand the unique needs of pupils with vision impairments.
This project supports better access to inclusive music education for visually impaired children and young people across the country.
Using the music directory
To search the directory, simply input your postcode and instrument of choice from the dropdown menu. The directory will order results based on your location, listing teachers in closest proximity first.
You will be able to message the teacher with more information about your requirements, current experience and needs.
Information for music teachers
If you are a music teacher currently working with a child supported by The Amber Trust and would like to join the directory, you can get in touch with us at contact@ambertrust.org.
Please note this is not an open directory. Unfortunately, we cannot list teachers who are not already working with a child supported by Amber.
